High Falls is one the many beautiful waterfalls that can be
enjoyed in the DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, NC. Be sure to
enjoy Triple Falls and Hooker
Falls downstream as well for a great half-day hike.
The covered bridge on Buck Forest Road just upstream of High Falls
as seen from the covered bridge on Buck Forest Road.
Directions: From Brevard, take US 276 south for eight miles to Cedar Mountain. Turn left onto Cascade Lake Road and go 2.5 miles. Turn right onto Staton Road (look for the AGFA Plant sign) and go 1.5 miles until you cross a bridge. Turn left into the parking area. Carefully cross the road and bridge from the Hooker Falls Access Area, descend the steps, and follow the Triple Falls Trail upstream. The 150-foot Triple Falls is about 15 minutes upstream. Continue up the hill from the Triple Falls viewing area. Turn left onto High Falls Trail at the top of the hill. At the next fork, turn right on High Falls Trail up to the viewing area. Bear in mind, there are many trails and old roads throughout the forest. Pick up a DuPont State Forest trail map at a local retailer or at nearby Caesars Head State Park. Check out the forest's website for trail closures and updates. All photos © Allen Easler. |
