Long Shoals are a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, whether you are into fishing for that elusive trout or just want to slide down the rock into the cool waters on a warm summer day. Long Shoals are on the Little Eastatoee Creek in the Poe Creek State Forest along SC 11 in northern Pickens County. Numerous organizations and community volunteers have transformed this old party spot into Long Shoals Wayside Park with parking, trails, picnic tables, bicycle rack, and a portajohn. From the upper parking lot, follow the "trail" signs down to the Long Shoals. Or, park in the lower lot and take the fishing access trail to an area downstream of the falls.
Directions: From Pickens, take US 178 north toward Rosman, NC. Turn left onto SC 11 (toward Walhalla) where US 178 intersects SC 11. Long Shoals Wayside Park is a few miles east of Keowee-Toxaway State Park on SC 11. It is between Keowee-Toxaway and Table Rock State Parks on SC 11. All photos © Allen Easler. |
