 Looking Glass Falls are one of the most popular falls in the Southeast because of their accessibility (US 276 passes right by them) and their nearness to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a short trail of steps to the base for a closer view of the 60-foot falls, but please don't attempt to climb the falls. During the fall of 2001, the parking area and stairway was closed.      Directions: From Pisgah Forest, drive 5.5 miles north on US 276 to the parking area. Visit early or late in the day if you want fewer people around. Otherwise, be prepared to jockey for tripod space. All photos © Allen Easler. |
