Pearson's Falls make for a delightful stop in the old railroad town of Saluda, NC. The falls and the surrounding glen are owned by the Tryon Garden Club, and they manage it as a botanical preserve. The club charges a small admission fee to hike and view the falls. However, it is worth it. While you are in Saluda, be sure and stop for a bite at Green River BBQ in town. Pets are not permitted on the property. For complete details about hours of operation and entrance fees, visit their website at www.pearsonsfalls.com.
Directions: Street address: 2720 Pearsons Falls Road, Saluda, NC 28733. From downtown Saluda, briefly drive south on US 176 through town and turn right onto graveled Pearson Falls Road (SR 1102). Follow for two miles and look for the sign for Pearson's Falls on the right. Enter and pay the admission. Look for several wet weather cascades along the right side of the road during the drive on Pearson Falls Road. If you don't want to drive on a graveled road, from downtown Saluda, continue straight on US 176 for about two miles. The road can be steep at times, but it is paved. Turn right onto Pearsons Falls Road (it's paved on this end) and follow it to Pearson's Falls. All photos © Allen Easler. |
