Quarry Falls (also known as Upper Cullasaja Falls) are an often overlooked 20-foot high, multi-tiered cascade in the Cullasaja River Gorge. But, they are an extremely popular site with locals and tourists for swimming and picnics during warmer weather. You should visit early in the morning if you want solitude, but go in the afternoon if you want to people-watch. The rocks near the falls collect snow to make a serene winter setting. Notice the tell-tale quarry drill marks on some of the larger boulders downstream of the falls.
Directions: From Highlands, proceed 6.6 miles toward Franklin. A large paved pull-off will be on the left. All photos © Allen Easler. |
